I learned about pinch pots when I was in college. I can't believe that you are making them in second grade. I love the colors it makes the coils look like yarn or colored rope.
This is Miss DiLandro, I am currently observing the classes at the elementary school. While watching this lesson I was so impressed to see the students coming up with such creative ideas. Some students came up with flowers, boats, and even a rocket. The students ability to use the medium was also impressive and I was very excited to spend time in this class.
Our Sculpture unit included 3 separate projects. In the First art lesson the students made clay dinosaurs out of model magic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ocAc--CQdPwCheck out this link for a great video on making an animal out of clay In the second art lesson students created relief sculptures choosing their own subject matter. In the third art lesson students mixed clay colors to create a tie-dyed effect and learned how to make pinch pots and coil pots.
This is Meg RyanMetz, a teacher at the East Hampton Middle School. I really like these relief sculpture projects. The dinosaur is very well done and I love the clay pots, especially the one in the back where the colors swirl together. I am sure the students really enjoyed working on their projects. Great job!
Mrs Kalmus' Second Grade Class: We watched the video in the link Ms Ryan posted . The teacher made a 3D sculpture of a Wooly Rhino. After he made his sculpture he painted it. We used model magic when we made our dinosaur sculpture. The clay we used was all different colors so we didn't need to paint our sculptures.
We made dinosaurs in our class! we used clay that dried up real fast so we had to make it fast. I made the Camarasaurus a long neck dinosaur. I made it Blue,Red and Brown
